A long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) is recommended for those who require complex medical management, therapeutic care, and rehabilitation services - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with daily assessment of the patient by a physician.
Persons requiring long-term acute care are generally:
Admitted directly from the ICU
Medically and physically compromised with multi-system complications and/or failures that require hospitalization.
In need of extended acute care (average 25 days or more), but have the potential for recovery and may then transition home or to the next level of care.
