Driving Rehabilitation Program

Driving represents freedom and independence for many people.  For some, it can also be a necessity. However, you may find that an illness, injury, disease or another medical has impacted your ability to drive safely.  In those situations, our Driving Rehabilitation Program can help you regain the skills to safely navigate the road.

Requirements

A physician’s referral is required (see below to download form) as well as a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit.

Evaluation

A Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist will assess your driving abilities in two parts, which will take about three hours to complete.

The first part will include reviewing multiple factors including your driving history, upper and lower extremity function, reaction times, vision, cognitive skills, reading comprehension, problem solving, traffic sign recognition, processing speed, and basic decision-making abilities.

The second part is a behind-the-wheel assessment.  Using our vehicle, we will start in a parking lot and progress to other roads and traffic patterns as safety allows.

Following the evaluations, we will immediately share our findings with you. If you need driver training or adaptive equipment, we will schedule additional sessions.  We will also share our recommendations with your referring physician.
