Ben Lachowsky: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fargo

Mr. Lachowsky after his recovery

Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fargo

Diagnosis: Brain injury; Worker’s compensation

Ben is a 37-year-old who was working full-time and independent in all aspects of life. On 4/29/23, he presented to the emergency department of a local hospital following an incident at work. He had suffered internal bleeding around his eye and bleeding around his brain.

He came to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fargo on May 22nd 2023 after he was medically stable and able to participate in extensive therapy. He participated in physical, occupational, speech therapies up to 6 days/week. Upon arrival, he was able to walk with a walker and complete transfers and self-care activities, but he required supervision to stay safe and on task.

Mr. Lachowsky focused a significant amount of his rehab stay on his cognition, as he struggled with expressive/receptive aphasia. When Mr. Lachowsky arrived at PAM Health, he required help from others to express his ideas. But after just 17 days, he had progressed significantly to be able to verbally express his own ideas, wants, and needs with very little support.

Some goals been achieved during his stay were:

  • Going home with family and outpatient therapy
  • Walking without an assistive device
  • Verbally communicating with friends and family

Ben stated, “I appreciate all the help that you guys have given me.”
