Wilmer Morgan: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Houston Heights

Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Houston Heights

Diagnosis: Left above-the-knee amputation

After being involved in an injury at work, Wilmer Morgan developed pain and gangrene, a serious infection, in his left lower extremity.  Medications were unable to resolve the infection, so doctors were forced to amputate his left leg above the knee.

To help in his recovery, Wilmer came to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Houston Heights on April 29, 2025.  Upon arrival, it was hard for him to get into and out of bed, shower and shower on his own.  He could only tolerate doing his exercises in bed initially.  However, his therapy and nursing team were determined to help him see his potential and kept encouraging him.

After hard work and consistent effort, Wilmer began to see breakthroughs like getting into and out of bed by himself at night, performing his personal care activities on his own in the morning, and standing on his own again for the first time.

Wilmer describes one of his happiest moments as being:  “My first shower. I didn’t think I could get in the shower on the chair, but I did. Along with being able to stand and put on my clothes.”

He noted everyone at PAM Health was incredibly helpful, especially his therapists, Jacob and Dev. He also gave shout outs to nursing, administration, wound care, and pain management teams.
