Leopaldo Diaz: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Corpus Christi

Leopaldo Diaz with several PAM Health specialists

Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Corpus Christi

Diagnosis: Respiratory failure

Leopaldo Diaz suffered a ground-level fall that resulted in bilateral collapsed lungs. As his condition worsened, Mr. Diaz developed pneumonia and required a tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation. After some time in the acute care hospital, Mr. Diaz chose to come to our sister hospital at PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Corpus Christi North – a Joint Commission-certified hospital for our respiratory failure program —for ventilator weaning.

At PAM Health Corpus Christi North, thanks to our expert respiratory therapy team, Mr. Diaz achieved liberation from the ventilator and was able to breath independently again, a tremendous milestone in his healing journey! He began to work with physical and occupational therapy to regain his mobility. He soon came to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Corpus Christi to continue his journey with therapy. Mr. Diaz’s walking gradually improved. Upon admission, he required a Hoyer lift to move around. By the end of his rehab stay, he was walking with a rolling walker! We are so thrilled our collaborative approach to care could help Mr. Diaz regain his independence. He appreciated our kind, easy-to-work-with staff who kept him motivated even when things got challenging. A father of five and a brother, Mr. Diaz looks forward to returning home to Crystal City, where he lives with and cares for his mother. He is eager to get back to welding – a hobby of his – and enjoying BBQ pits again. We are so proud of all your success, Mr. Diaz!
