John Puckett: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Golden

John Puckett

Hospital: PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Golden

Diagnosis: Complex wound care; Therapy for strength-building and activities of daily living

John Puckett is wheelchair-bound and lives at the Sunrise at Cherry Creek assisted living facility in Denver. In September 2025, he began to have more difficulty moving his arms, completing basic daily tasks by himself, and eating safely, with increased coughing leading to concerns about choking. Additionally, existing wounds on his legs were worsening beyond what his assisted living facility could care for. The health and wellness director there recommended PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Golden for Mr. Puckett to help heal his wounds and provide therapy so he could get stronger and regain independence.

A priority for Mr. Puckett during his stay was getting his complex wounds on a positive healing trajectory, a key milestone toward to him returning to his assisted living facility and the community safely. Our wound care team’s expertise and advanced techniques made that happen, and Mr. Puckett was able to focus his efforts in speech, occupational, and physical therapies. Initially apprehensive about being away from his home and familiar surroundings, he eventually embraced therapy and appreciated the challenges. Mr. Puckett made tremendous improvements in restoring his independence. “I feel stronger. I can complete tasks more easily, and I’m more willing to try things I would have avoided before,” Mr. Puckett said. He returns to his assisted living facility more confident and equipped to take charge of his health. He appreciated the kindness and diligent care of our entire team and is thrilled to be going home in a “better place functionally and health-wise,” Mr. Puckett said.

We are so proud of you, Mr. Puckett!
