Janet Green: Recovery After a Fall and Partial Hip Replacement

Janet Green

Reason for Admission: Fall recovery; Surgical recovery

Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Westminster

Janet Green fell at home earlier in 2023 and fractured her left hip. Her orthopedic surgeon Dr. Baxter was consulted and recommended urgent surgical intervention. Janet underwent a partial hip replacement and was recovering well. Acute rehabilitation was recommended as Janet required oxygen post-operatively and needed further monitoring. Just two days after surgery, Janet came to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Westminster to continue her recovery. She knew that she needed rehabilitation in order to regain her prior independence at home, where she had to care for her two dogs and climb several steps to access her living space.Upon arrival at PAM Health, Janet was in pain. Our nursing team was able to quickly provide pain relief so Janet could successfully start to work with the therapy team. Janet was needing assistance with walking and everyday tasks like dressing and bathing. Janet was determined to regain her strength and independence to safely return home. Thanks to the expertise, encouragement, and kindness from her therapists and nurses, her pain was managed throughout her stay, and Janet made great progress with therapy. Janet was able to have her oxygen removed and her lab results were within normal limits, thanks to the oversight of PAM Health’s medical team. To help with Janet’s discharge, the therapy team utilized video of her working with them so she could reference back to her sessions when she was home to ensure she was utilizing correct form.Prior to her initial hospitalization at Platte Valley, Janet said she lived a sedentary lifestyle; while at PAM Health, she gained a newfound motivation to be more active once she returned home. She shared that our therapy team changed her attitude about exercise, and she “couldn’t imagine life without a workout plan,” Janet said.

Janet’s stay at PAM Health “exceeded her expectations,” and while her whole experience was great, she said, one breakthrough moment stuck out in particular: On March 3, Janet walked 88 feet and 11 stairs, a milestone of which she was very proud.Janet knew she “chose right” when picking PAM Health for her postacute care. Thanks for trusting us with your rehabilitation, Janet!
