Fernando Morales: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richardson

Fernando after his recovery

Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richardson

Diagnosis: Rehabilitation after stroke

Fernando Morales suffered a stroke that affected the left side of his body. After a stay in the acute care hospital, he chose to come to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richardson because he and his family felt confident our equipment and expertly trained staff would help maximize his recovery.

When Mr. Morales arrived at PAM Health, he was unable to walk or use his left arm. His balance was impaired, as was his speech. Through physical, occupational, and speech therapy, Mr. Morales made tremendous progress in regaining strength and movement in his left side, which helped him improve his mobility, transfers, and speech. An exciting milestone for him during his stay at PAM Health was when he walked in the parallel bars in our therapy gym for the first time since his stroke. “Now I have more strength in my left leg, and my facial muscles have gotten stronger with the help of speech therapy,” Mr. Morales said. “I have more strength in my core to where I can sit up by myself. I can also speak a lot better,” he added.

During his stay, Mr. Morales achieved the following goals:

  • Improved strength and use of the left side of his body
  • Improved speech
  • Improved mobility

Mr. Morales expressed gratitude for the “attention and care the whole staff showed toward not only me but my family,” he said. He appreciated his therapists’ professionalism, empathy, and compassion toward each patient, including him, as he worked hard each day to heal. Our teams’ support and personalized care certainly helped Mr. Morales stay positive and motivated toward his goals.

Mr. Morales looks forward to being able to walk again. All of his hard work and dedication during his stay at PAM Health helped him achieve amazing milestones on his recovery journey, and we are so proud of him!
