Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Greater Indiana North
Twelve years ago, Ed Juliot was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Since then, he has taken a proactive approach to managing his condition with a combination of medical care and specialized therapy. He sees Dr. Justin Phillips at Norton’s Neuroscience twice a year for ongoing medical management and regularly attends outpatient therapy sessions at PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Greater Indiana.
As part of his care, Mr. Juliot participates in PAM Health’s weekly Parkinson’s Wellness group—an encouraging space for both physical activity and emotional support. Recently, his therapy has also included targeted treatments to address episodes of vertigo, which had caused dizziness, nausea, and discomfort. His Parkinson’s Disease symptoms also include visual disturbances, memory lapses, and deteriorating handwriting—all of which his therapy team is working to improve.
Although Mr. Juliot still requires treatment for vertigo, he has already experienced meaningful progress. His nausea has subsided, and his balance is steadily improving. He credits much of this to therapists Jen and Laura, who are both certified in LSVT BIG® and vestibular rehabilitation. He especially values the Parkinson’s group they facilitate, which he initially thought he didn’t need—until he experienced its powerful impact. He said the group “pushes” him to move forward. He sees the value in the variety and type of exercises his therapists ask him to do.
One of the simple pleasures that therapy has helped Mr. Juliot continue to do is to mow his lawn. Using a self-propelled lawn mower, he enjoys being out in his yard, walking and bagging the grass. Weather permitting, he likes to walk 20-30 minutes a day with his wife, who points out any hazards in his path.
With PAM Health being a quick five-minute drive from his home, Mr. Juliot plans to continue to attend the sessions because of the specialized care and noticeable positive impact they have had on his life.
