Hospital: PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Corpus Christi North
Diagnosis: Respiratory failure and stroke recovery
Charles Wilson experienced a stroke and went into respiratory failure in early 2023. He was admitted to Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline, where he received a tracheostomy and was on a ventilator. When Mr. Wilson was stable enough in late February, he came to PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Corpus Christi North to continue recovery and begin the process of weaning off the ventilator.
When he arrived at PAM Health, Mr. Wilson had decreased strength and couldn’t move around well on his own. Through rigorous physical and occupational therapies with “amazing and very attentive” staff, Mr. Wilson made remarkable progress in regaining his functional abilities and mobility. Most notably, he had his tracheostomy tube removed and was fully weaned off the ventilator by the time he was discharged. While Mr. Wilson said that his discharge was the most memorable moment of his stay at PAM Health, he was appreciative of the care and compassion from everyone involved in his care, including Dr. Jude and Dr. Franco, during his time here. He’s looking forward to being able to drive and walk independently again now that he’s home. Keep up the tremendous work, Mr. Wilson!
