Madelyn “Maddii” Quiroz is everyone’s daughter. She’s the girl next door. She loves to dance and spend time with her friends. On January 23, 2020, she was a high school student with a bright future. She was riding in the back seat of a car with her friends when they were involved in a car accident. The bright light that was her future flickered, but Maddii continued to shine despite sustaining serious injuries.
Her injuries included a traumatic spinal cord injury that left her unable to walk, a collapsed lung, broken ribs, broken nose, broken arm and multiple contusions.
Maddii had spent time recuperating in several different hospitals before arriving at PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Humble in May of 2021. Our rehabilitation team worked with her on trying to regain her ability to walk. One of her immediate goals was to walk across the stage at her high school graduation to receive her diploma. With the help of the eksoNR robotic exoskeleton, she was able to join her classmates and achieve her goal on Saturday, May 29, 2021. A remarkable device, the eksoNR can especially benefit patients like Maddii.
