Hospital: PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Sarasota
Diagnosis: Hypoxic respiratory failure, COPD exacerbation, tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, congestive heart failure exacerbation, pulmonary hypertension
When Marilyn Shea’s COPD became exacerbated, it led to hypoxic respiratory failure and a host of other complications, including tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, congestive heart failure exacerbation, and pulmonary hypertension.
After a stay in the acute care hospital, Ms. Shea came to PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Sarasota to start her recovery journey. Upon arrival, she was still having difficulty breathing, and she had low endurance, balance impairments, leading to her being unsafe in her mobility, and intermittent confusion.
Once stable enough, Ms. Shea began work with our therapy teams and made tremendous progress during her stay toward getting back to living her life. At discharge, she was able to complete transfers with modified independence to supervision. Ms. Shea’s endurance also improved substantially during her stay with us, which helped her handle activities of daily living more independently, only requiring slight adjustments and supervision. Her resting oxygen needs also decreased.
Ms. Shea appreciated everyone involved her care, from nursing and her medical team to her respiratory, physical, and occupational therapists to her case managers. She expressed gratitude for Mayelin, CNA, in particular, who had a great attitude and “works so hard and was always happy to help.”
We’re so proud of all your hard work, Ms. Shea! Best of luck in your continued recovery!
