Hospital: PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Kyle

Diagnosis: Spinal cord injury

Peter Raynor has struggled with back pain for more than 15 years. His first surgery to have hardware implanted in his spine was around 2010, he recalls. His back pain persisted, and walking became increasingly difficult, to the point where he hasn’t been able to walk since October 2023, Mr. Raynor says. He underwent spinal surgery in December 2024 and, because he and his wife live a mile away, chose to come to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Kyle for an inpatient stay after. That first stay sold him on the “exceptional” care here at PAM Health! Mr. Raynor was making great progress in outpatient therapy with us when he experienced a setback in early 2025 that landed him in his local emergency department. He had surgery in which reinforcing rods were placed in a large section of his lower spine down to his pelvis. Despite feeling somewhat discouraged after another major surgery, Mr. Raynor knew immediately where he wanted to go for rehab to get the best possible care: PAM Health Kyle!

Mr. Raynor’s goal was to get back to his level of function before his most recent hospitalization, and he has achieved that and more! He is able to stand and complete transfers with support. Each breakthrough in therapy has brought him closer to walking again. Mr. Raynor shared high praises for his “outstanding” occupational and physical therapists – the same team who worked with himduring his first inpatient stay – who have contributed to his progress. “My therapy team are very caring people, and as a patient, that means a lot to me. It makes me want to strive for more,” Mr. Raynor says. His wife is similarly grateful for our team. “She loves the people here like I do,” he says. Even though they live nearby to our hospital, “even if I lived 20 miles away, I’d still want to come here,” Mr. Raynor says. We can think of no better testament to our commitment to patient-centered care, and we are honored to have been part of Mr. Raynor’s journey!
